However in some children the full strength of the arch does not happen and the feet remain flat. It might just be the way your feet are.Having flat feet is actually common in children up until a certain age, in fact a child does not fully develop their arch until the age of 7!Īs the soft tissues stiffen and the muscles gain strength, flat feet usually corrects itself. There's often no obvious cause for flat feet. Your GP may refer you to a surgeon if they think surgery might help. It might help if there's a problem with the bones, tissues or muscles in your feet and other treatments have not worked. These will not change the shape of your feet, but can help with things like pain or stiffness.
